For the time in your life when pregnancy is not desired, let us help you find a birth control method that works for your life.  It can be difficult to decide which method is right for you because so many options are available.  The best method is one that you will use consistently and that does not cause bothersome side effects.  Your health history is also very important in deciding which method is safest for you.  No method is perfect and all can cause side effects. You should talk carefully with your physician about these factors and your future pregnancy plans.

Options available through our office include:

• Birth Control Pills: pills containing estrogen and progesterone which must be taken daily

• NuvaRing: device containing estrogen and progesterone placed in vagina monthly

• Ortho Evra Patch: patch applied to skin which is changed weekly (also contains estrogen and progesterone)

• Depo provera: injection of progesterone injected every 12 weeks

• Nexplanon: single rod progestin implant inserted in upper arm for 3 year period

• Mirena IUD: progesterone containing device placed in uterus for up to 5 years

• Paraguard IUD: non hormonal device placed in uterus for up to 10 years

• Essure Tubal Sterilization : permanent procedure requiring no incisions (placed through vagina) where metal coil is placed in fallopian tube to occlude tube performed as oupatient surgery or in office (insurance dependent)

• Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation: permanent procedure using incision through naval to occlude fallopian tubes performed as outpatient surgery
